남쪽의 나무에는 기묘한 열매가 열리고

 

blood on the leaves and blood at the root.
나뭇잎 뿌리에 피가 맺히네.

 

black body swinging in the southern breeze,
검은 몸뚱이가 남주의 바람에 흔들리고

 

strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
포플러 나무아래, 매달려있는 기묘한 열매들이여.

 

the bulging eves and the twisted mouth
부풀어 오른 눈, 비뚤어진 입

 

scent of magnolia sweet and fresh.

목련의 단 향기속에

 

and the sudden smell of burning flesh
갑자기 타오르는 냄새

 

here's a fruit for the crows to pluck
까마귀들이 모여들고

 

for a tree to drop
밑으로 떨어져 버리네

 

here's a strange and bitter crop.
